Football: Former national coach, Mahieddine Khalef, passes away

ALGIERS- Former coach of the national football team, Mahieddine khalef, died on Tuesday at the age of 80, announced the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on its official website.

"In the face of this great loss, the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, extends, on his own behalf and on behalf of the members of his federal office, his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and to the entire football community in Algeria, praying to Almighty God to grant him mercy and welcome him into His vast paradise,” wrote the federation on its website.

The late Khalif Mehieddine is regarded as one of the most significant figures in the history of Algerian football.

The deceased coached the "Greens" during the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. [/ecr]
