Algiers' Open Africa: Algerian junior athletes dominate Day 1

ALGIERS- Algerian (junior) judokas took most of the medals at the fourth Open Africa international tournament of Algiers (male and female cadet, junior and senior categories), by snatching 26 medals (8 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze), on the first day of the competition that will continue until Sunday, at the Cupola of the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers.

The junior event featured 80 judokas, including 34 girls representing seven countries: Ghana (1 athlete), Greece (1), Jordan (4), Kuwait (1), Niger (1), Senegal (1), Tunisia (4) and Algeria (67 boys and girls).

The second position in junior events went to Tunisia, with four medals (3 gold and 1 bronze) while Senegal ranked third by winning five medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze).

Friday is dedicated to the "cadet" category with playoffs, repechage and semi-finals (in the morning) and finals (in the afternoon), involving the following categories:

Cadet girls: - 40 kg, -44 kg, -48 kg, - 52 kg, -57 kg, - 63 kg, - 70 kg and + 70 kg.

Cadet boys: - 50 kg, -55kg, -60 kg, -696 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg, -90 kg and + 90 kg.
