Arab and African regions, high priority for Algeria during Security Council’s presidency

Bendjama, who underlined that Security Council’s presidency was both “an honor” and “heavy responsibility,” emphasized, during his New York press conference, Algeria's focus on situation in the Middle East, particularly Gaza, and the scourges affecting Africa, mainly terrorism.

Under Algeria's presidency, the Security Council's packed agenda begins as of Friday with a meeting convened by Algeria to discuss Zionist attacks targeting Gaza’s hospitals.

Bendjama underscored Algeria's solidarity with the Palestinian people, citing the recent speech of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune before the Parliament where he assured that Algeria would never abandon Palestine and would support it until a state is established with Al-Quds as its capital.

At the Security Council, Algeria will continue fighting to draw attention to the Palestinian people's suffering and the humanitarian crisis they are going through. Palestine remains an “absolute priority” for Algeria, affirmed Bendjama, noting that Algerian authorities also plan humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people.

He further emphasized that Algeria will always stand with oppressed peoples worldwide.
