Algeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, spoke on behalf of the A3+ group (Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Guyana), which presented once again its stance on the situation in Syria.

During the Security Council meeting held last December 17, the A3+ called for respect of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

the A3+ also urged Syrians to initiate a political process under United Nations auspices in order to achieve a new Syria that will unite all Syrians.

The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, provided an update on the situation in Syria.
