After one year of its mandate on the United Nations Security Council (2024-2025), Algeria is already leaving a significant imprint on the international counter-terrorism architecture.
The adoption of “Algeria Principles” on terrorism financing through new technologies constitutes a tangible legacy of this participation, thus marking a historic contribution to international peace and security.
The result of an intense year-long negotiation process under Algeria’s chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, this major diplomatic achievement, which adds to previous accomplishments during Algeria’s Security Council mandate, establishes a new international framework to address challenges posed by the rapid evolution of financial technologies.
The adoption of the “Algeria Principles” is also the result of rigorous and collaborative work, involving in-depth consultations between experts from different countries. This process required meticulous coordination with the national structures of each member State, to ensure coherence with international standards.
