Security Council: Algeria chairs meeting on fight against terrorism in Africa

New York (United Nations)- Works of the Security Council meeting on “the fight against terrorism in Africa” kicked off on Tuesday, in New York, under the chairmanship of Algeria.

[ecr] Appointed by President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, is chairing this meeting, which marks a flagship event of Algeria’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of January.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed will address the meeting, followed by Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security of the African Union, Adeoye Bankole, and Senior Advisor at the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD),  Said Djinni.

During this meeting, participants will discuss the expansion of terrorist activities in Africa and their negative impact on the security and stability of African countries.

A draft presidential statement, proposed by Algeria as part of the meeting, is under negotiation. [/ecr]
