Algeria chairs Meeting on Cooperation between Arab League, UN Security Council

NEW YORK (United Nations)-The Security Council meeting on cooperation between the Arab League and the UN Security Council began on Thursday in New York, under Algeria’s presidency.

Mandated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, is chairing this Security Council meeting dedicated to Cooperation between the Council and the Arab League.

The objectives of this meeting are to evaluate the current state of collaboration between the UN and the Arab League to address persistent regional crises, identify practical methods to leverage the expertise of both parties in conflict prevention and resolution, and consider immediate and long-term strategies and mechanisms to successfully address current regional challenges.

Attaf held talks on Wednesday in New York with the Secretary General of the Arab League, on the sidelines of the high-level meetings planned as part of Algeria’s presidency of the UN Security Council in January.
