The two-day proceedings, which brought together the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, alongside African leaders at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) under the theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” mapped out Africa's priorities for 2025 and beyond, as well as the mechanisms for implementing Agenda 2063.
The Summit was marked by the election of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, replacing the former Chadian Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, as well as the election of Algeria's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Malika Haddadi, to the position of Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, after achieving a crushing victory against her Moroccan competitor.
During this session, Algeria also announced a voluntary financial contribution of one million USD to support the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), an announcement made by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the proceedings of the 34th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the APRM, held Friday, under his presidency.
A memorandum of understanding on the voluntary financial contribution to promote good governance in Africa was signed by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, and the Chief Executive Officer for the APRM Continental Secretariat, Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre.
