PAP President congratulates Algeria on AU Commission vice presidency

ALGIERS - Pan-African Parliament (PAP) President, Fortune Charumbira, congratulated Algeria after the election of Selma Malika Haddadi as Deputy Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, during the 38th ordinary session of the AU Heads of State and Government Summit, held recently in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) said Sunday in a press release.

“An expanded meeting of the PAP bureau, including representatives from permanent commissions and geopolitical groups, convened on Saturday, 22 February 2025, at PAP headquarters in Midrand, South Africa, to establish the action program of the commissions and the PAP plenary session, as well as the draft budget for fiscal year 2025,” said the press release.

In his opening address at the meeting, PAP President, Charumbira, “congratulated Algeria after the success achieved during the 38th ordinary session of the AU Heads of State and Government Summit, held in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), following the election of Selma Malika Haddadi as Deputy Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission,” added the same source.

He also praised Algeria’s role in “mobilizing material support for AU organs, under the enlightened leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.”

The PAP is organizing its session under the AU’s slogan for 2025 “Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations,” from February 18 to 28 in Midrand (South Africa), according to the same source.
