[ecr] During the general debate under Agenda Item 7 of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Rachid Bladehane, expressed Algeria’s "strong" condemnation of the occupying power’s violation of the ceasefire agreement and the resumption of aggression against Gaza, which has resulted in hundreds of martyrs and wounded, as well as "repressive, discriminatory, and settlement policies and practices aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, such as blockade, starvation, destruction, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, collective punishment, and the annexation of Palestinian territories."
After denouncing the "flagrant violations of international law in all its forms," Algeria called for an "immediate" end to the aggression against Gaza and the illegitimate Zionist presence in Palestinian territories, as well as reparations for damages in accordance with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the relevant UN General Assembly resolution.
Bladehane further reiterated Algeria’s condemnation of the attempts to Judaize East Jerusalem and alter its demographic composition to impose an apartheid regime.
On this occasion, Algeria once again called on the international community to fully assume its legal responsibilities, implement the ICJ’s opinions and orders, enforce UN resolutions, and activate accountability mechanisms against the occupying Zionist entity.
In this context, Bladehane emphasized the importance of retaining Item 7 on the Council’s agenda, given the ongoing colonialism and systematic human rights violations committed by the occupying power against the Palestinian people.
"Any retreat on this point would only reinforce impunity and undermine the effectiveness and credibility of international law mechanisms," he warned.
Additionally, Algeria urged the international community to provide the necessary political, financial, and material support for Gaza’s reconstruction to make it habitable again after the devastation caused by the brutal aggression.
It stressed that any reconstruction plan must ensure Palestinians remain on their land and that displaced persons can return.
Concluding his statement, Bladehane reaffirmed that the only solution for achieving lasting, comprehensive, and just peace lies in ending the Zionist occupation of Palestinian territories and all occupied Arab lands, as well as enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent, fully sovereign state along the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, and resolving the refugee issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
