Large quantities of drugs seized, four Moroccan nationals arrested

ALGIERS — Combined detachments of the National Gendarmerie and Algerian Customs apprehended a drug trafficker on the National Road No. 1 linking Ghardaia to Laghouat, and seized 121.40 kg of cocaine stashed in his vehicle, while Border Guards arrested four Moroccan nationals and seized 106 kg of cannabis resin they were attempting to introduce into the national territory through the western borders of the country, according to a Thursday statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

“As part of the fight against multifaceted organized crime as well as the ongoing efforts aimed at curbing the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the National Gendarmerie and Algerian Customs carried out a well-executed operation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Operating along the National Road No. 1 linking Ghardaia to Laghouat in the 4th Military Region, they successfully apprehended a drug trafficker and seized 121.40 kilograms of cocaine stashed in his vehicle,” the same source said.

“On the same day, in the 3rd Military Region, Border Guards detachments arrested four Moroccan nationals and seized 106 kilograms of cannabis resin they were attempting to introduce into the national territory through our western borders. These individuals are: Rachid Saik el-Ghazal, Yahia Kadouri, Abdelkrim Benazzi and Kasmi Dahmane,” the statement noted.

“These well-executed operations once again underscore the great vigilance and firm determination of the PNA forces deployed along the national borders to combat organized crime and preserve the country’s stability and security,” the same source added.
