According to the source, these measures presented by the Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy relate to the monitoring of the bodies listed in industrial zones and the immediate classification of the lake under law No.11-02 on protected areas. They are part of sustainable development and the elimination of poorly built houses inside the reserve.
The Lake of Reghaia is the only vestige of the former swampy Mitidja plain, stretching over 1,500 ha. It houses a remarkable diversity of natural environments, recalled the same official.
“Given the growing pressures and activities incompatible with the vocation of the site, the lake risks losing some of its ecological and landscape characteristics, naturalness, and sustainability,” stated the minister.
