In a statement marking the 49th anniversary of the daily’s Arabization on January 5, 1976, at the headquarters of this media outlet, in the presence of Brahim Sadouk, chargé de mission at the Presidency of the Republic, and the province’s authorities, the minister highlighted that “El Djomhouria newspaper is one of the oldest national dailies, remarkable for its history, professional values, and editorial lines.”
“It is not surprising that this prestigious newspaper chose the name 'El Djomhouria' because it embodies values like compliance with the law, solidarity, and unity, values which it has carried throughout its path towards Arabization,” said the minister.
Meziane stated, “This event is very important as it marks the 49th anniversary of this crucial step in the daily’s history. It is an opportunity to revisit the columns of this daily, written by journalists who left their mark on the media landscape during this period of Algeria's beloved history.”
The minister recalled that the daily was created at the same time as the prestigious “El Chaab” (The People) newspaper in the country’s center and the “An-Nasr” (The Victory) daily in the country’s east. He urged “El Djomhouria” daily’s journalists, technicians, and photographers to “preserve this institution so that it remains a pioneer as it has been throughout its history.”
On this occasion, the communication minister honored former employees of “El Djomhouria” and the families of deceased ones. Previously, he kicked off the shooting of a comedy show named “Ras El Khit,” produced by Oran’s public TV station and directed by Mohamed Difallah. The show, which will be broadcast during the Holy month of Ramadan, features several actors, including Boudjaila Houari and Soraya Zawach.
On Tuesday, the minister will chair the opening ceremony of a seminar on “The Algerian Television, Development and Investment Partner, and a Platform for the Promotion of Domestic Products.”[/ecr]
