ALGIERS- About eight million rural women are playing currently a pioneering role in the process of achieving development and self-sufficiency, in addition to their integration into the management and development of biodiversity, Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy Samia Moualfi said Saturday in Algiers.

[ecr]  “The action plan on biodiversity (2016-2030) provides for the integration of the population, including rural women, into the management, rehabilitation, conservation and development of biodiversity,” said the minister in her speech on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Rural Women, coinciding with 15 October of each year.

The studies show that rural women represent quarter of the world population and about 43% of the rural workforce of developing countries, said Moualfi, citing the rural revival policy adopted by Algeria which provides “an effective support to the rural areas in general and to rural women in particular.”

She reported more than 40,000 women holders of farmer cards, the holder of this card must have a farm with an area exceeding 5 hectares.  [/ecr]
