Women empowerment on agenda at Algiers meeting 

ALGIERS- United Nations system organized Wednesday, in Algiers, a meeting and debate, marking the International Women's Day, themed "Women's Careers, National and International Achievements and Challenges."

The meeting shed light on outstanding women from different backgrounds that have contributed to the promotion of women's rights at the national and international levels.

The event was attended by the special envoy for major international partnerships at the ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Leila Zerrougui, the ambassador of Turkey to Algeria, Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas, and the president of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtissam Hamlaoui.

In this respect, two discussion panels were held to allow successful women to share their experiences and professional careers with the audience.

The first was themed "women's leadership" and the second "digitalisation: for a more inclusive world."

In an address, the UN Resident Coordinator in Algeria, Alejandro Alvarez, said the celebration of the International Women's Day was "an opportunity to determine the required efforts to reach gender equality worldwide, ensure women's empowerment and boost the transformative role of women in our societies."
