Over 42,000 Algerians to perform hajj rituals in 2023

ALGIERS- Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs Youcef Belmahdi affirmed Saturday, in Algiers, that more than 42,000 Algerians will perform hajj rituals for 2023.

[ecr]  In an orientation meeting for the members of the Algeria hajj mission that he co-chaired in Dar al-Imam, with Ministers of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani and of Tourism and Craft Industry Mokhtar Didouche, as well as the director general of the National Hajj and Umrah Office (ONPO) Ahmed Slimani, Belmahdi said that “for the first time in Algeria’s history, the number of Algerian hajjis has exceeded 42,000 hajjis,” affirming “the State’s commitment to providing the hajjis with all the means to the hajjis necessary for the accomplishment of the hajj rituals in the best conditions.”

The hajj mission comprises several sectors which “work in coordination with the Saudi authorities to provide the hajjis with all the conveniences during their stay in the Holy Places of Islam,” added the minister, welcoming the role of the health sector for supplying medicines to the different centres that will host the Algerian hajjis.”

The hajj mission is made up of 865 members, he added, stressing the necessity of accompanying the hajjis notably the elderly.

Belmahdi instructed the mission’s members “to comply with the instructions of the public authorities, to intensify awareness-raising and to make sure to give the best image of Algeria.”

For his part, Bouslimani emphasized the importance of the work of the information mission sent to Saudi Arabia to cover this important religious event, and called on its members to give a beautiful image of the country.
