Chairing a conference under the theme "Qur'an Teaching, Life Experience" in Dar al Imam, Belmehdi said the 19th edition of the contest has drawn more than 40 countries," adding that "the representatives of 20 of them have qualified for the final stage, to be held Sunday."
The awarding ceremony is scheduled for the night of Isra' and Mi'raj (Night Journey of Prophet Muhammad PBUH), he added.
The minister underlined the efforts made by the "teachers of the Holy Qur'an in Algeria," saying that "thousands of students, from 90 countries, have subscribed to the electronic Miqraa, showing the State's interest in the Qur'an teaching system."
The jury member of the previous edition of the contest, Islam Ben Fouzi Dachkine, from the Federation of Russia, said he was participating in this year's contest "in recognition of Algerian scholars' contribution to the preservation of the Qur'an teaching legacy."
