Krikou holds talks in New York with many counterparts, representatives of UN bodies

ALGIERS - On the sidelines of her participation in the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Minister of National Solidarity, the Family and the Status of Women, Kaouter Krikou, met a number of her counterparts from sisterly countries and representatives of UN bodies, to present Algeria's experience in caring for the vulnerable.

The minister held talks with President of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (GA), Dennis Francis, and Under-Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Arab States, Abudallah Al Dardari, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday.

In this regard, the minister expressed her willingness to "promote cooperation with the UNDP in order to provide better care for these categories in Algeria and to share Algeria's pioneering experience with sister countries and friends."

For her part, the Libyan minister expressed "her wish to benefit from this experiencen," praising "Algeria's unwavering commitment to supporting Libya in various fields."

In addition, the Minister of National Solidarity held talks in New York with Turkish Minister of the Family and Social Services, Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas, to whom she reaffirmed "the depth of relations between Algiers and Ankara, particularly in view of the exceptional dynamic that has recently marked various areas."

The Minister also met Palestinian Minister for Women's Affairs, Amel Hamed, to whom she reiterated "Algeria's constant position regarding the Palestinian cause and the Ministry's willingness to support the Palestinian Ministry's efforts to promote women."

On this occasion, the two parties discussed "ways of strengthening cooperation between the two ministries and exchanging experiences in several areas, including care for people with special needs and the elderly, women's empowerment and productive families."

Moreover, Krikou also had a bilateral meeting with Qatari Minister of Social Development and the Family, Mariam Al Misnad, during which she expressed "Algeria's willingness to strengthen cooperation with the State of Qatar in this area, and its readiness to exchange experiences in order to make further progress for the benefit of women," all the more so as Algeria, she said, "has made great strides in defending and promoting women's rights."

Meanwhile, she recalled "the various measures and mechanisms relating to the care of the vulnerable categories, as part of the implementation of the Algerian State's constant social policy and the preservation of the achievements made by women." [/ecr]
