Instituted by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in 2021, the National Imam Day is an opportunity to highlight the role and mission of Algerian imams and Ulama in education and transmission of Islamic values, as well as their active contribution to preserving the foundations and constants of the nation and the national religious reference, through moderate speech.

In addition to their role in combating all forms of extremism and radicalization, Algerian imams also contribute to the moralization of social life and the spread of values such as kindness, mutual aid, and solidarity through their pulpits in mosques, Quranic schools, and awareness campaigns.

Given the importance of imams within society, the country’s top authorities pay particular attention to this category, as evidenced by the approval of the imams' compensation scheme, which was decided in February during a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by the President of the Republic.[/ecr]
