In a speech delivered on the second day of the 1st Global Ministerial Conference on “Women, Security and Peace,” organized in Manila, the minister said that “Algeria is working to perpetuate these gains and create conditions allowing women to play a more active role in serving the country, its stability and the maintenance of peace and security,” affirming that “the national action plan on implementing resolution 1325 is intended to support this approach.”
The minister further emphasized that Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, spares no effort to defend just causes, recalling that Algeria's commitment to security and peace issues, with women's participation in related efforts, stems from its experience through different stages of its history during which women have marked a remarkable presence. According to her, the role of the Security Council, as guarantor of international peace and security maintenance, must be decisive.
Algeria deplores the growing threats to international peace and security, particularly with the war crimes committed against the defenceless Palestinian people, she said, calling on international and regional organizations to take their responsibilities in the face of this aggression and its repercussions, particularly on women and children, and to work to enable aid delivery to the population.[/ecr]
