In a statement to APS, on Thursday, the communication manager at the Road coordination and Information Centre of the National Gendarmerie Command, the staff sergent Abdelhamid Amrani said that the human factor is “the main cause of these accidents,” 35 of which are due to speeding, 19 to the driving on the left, 18 to dangerous overtaking and 17 to the failure to maintain a safe following distance, while 19 accidents were caused by pedestrians.
The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Boumerdes (11 accidents), followed by the provinces of Blida and Ain Defla (9 accidents each), said the source.
Compared to the previous week, the number of accidents has increased by 11, that of deaths by 30 and that of injuries by 25, added the source.
