ALGIERS-The Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs, Kaoutar Krikou took part on Thursday, by videoconference, in the ministerial coordination meeting in preparation for the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) on the Beijing +30 Declaration, and the efforts of African Union (AU) countries in this field, said a press release from the Ministry.

During the meeting, which was part of the AU's consultations with ministers in charge of women's affairs, “a draft document on the common African position on the revision of the Beijing +30 Declaration was examined, in preparation for its submission to CSW69, scheduled for March 2025 at UN headquarters in New York,” the same source said.

On this occasion, the Minister presented “Algeria's experience in protecting, promoting and empowering women, from a legislative point of view, particularly the codification of these principles in the November 2020 Constitution.”

The ministerial meeting of the 9th session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (STC) also discussed and adopted several projects and reports, including the draft African Union Convention on Ending Violence against Women and Girls, which will be submitted to the AU Summit next February.

Also, “the joint communiqué on AU countries' efforts to protect and empower women, to be presented at CSW69, was considered,” said the source.[/ecr]
