Algeria’s struggle in defending colonized peoples stems from November 1st Declaration

TIARET- The president of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Abdelmadjid Zaalani affirmed, Tuesday in Tiaret, that Algeria’s struggle and actions within international bodies in favour of colonized and oppressed peoples for their independence, emanates from the Declaration of 1 November 1954, whose content remains relevant for addressing current challenges.

During a conference at the “Ali Maâchi” Cultural Centre under the theme “Algeria’s struggles for freedom and human rights, an immutable principle rooted in the Declaration of 1 November 1954,” Zaalani emphasized that “this historic document reflects the Algerian people’s desire for emancipation and their commitment to other peoples by demanding, from that time, France’s recognition of the right of all colonized peoples to self-determination and independence.”

He added that “since then, Algeria has continued this fight, particularly through its unwavering support for the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples,” recalling that as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Algeria succeeded in convincing its members to adopt two resolutions aimed at ending the Zionist aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.

He further said that this commitment is a continuation of the sacrifices of the Algerian people.

The same official also mentioned the efforts currently being made by Algeria, in collaboration with other countries, within the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and in other international forums, to establish “the right to development,” through the development of an international convention requiring rich countries to contribute financially to the development of poor countries in order to improve their growth prospects.
