[ecr] The Algerian film “Soula” will compete for the best feature film award, alongside 11 others works from several Arab countries, including Tunisia, Jordan and Qatar.
This 92-minute fiction portrays the life of a young single mother who was rejected by her family and society. She was subjected, with her baby, to a terrible pressure from her relatives and family circle. She finds herself homeless, seeking refuge.
The short film “Tchebtchaq marikane” will compete with 24 other works from several countries like Palestine, Lebanon and Egypt.
Lasting 26 minutes, this film deals with the story of two teenagers Samia and Nouara whose lives turn upside down after the murder of Nouara’s father, mistaken for Samia’s father who was a journalist.
Produced in 2021 by a private production company, in collaboration with the Algerian Center of Cinema Development (CADC) and previewed in Algiers in December 2021, this film deals with the period of terrorism in the 1990s.
A total of 56 films representing 14 Arab and foreign countries, including 31 feature films, will compete in this 12th Malmo Arab Film Festival. [/ecr]
