ALGIERS- The fiction feature film "Afterlife," by Algerian filmmaker Anis Djaad, received Saturday in Tunis the Tanit's Taher-Cheriaa First Work Award at the 33rd Carthage Film Festival, the event's organizers said.

The award, given by the Feature Film Jury, is the movie's second prize at the Carthage Film Festival after the African Critics Award, received Friday from the African Film Critics Association.

The first feature film by the filmmaker, "Afterlife" relates the story of Hadjer, who tries to rebuild a life with her son, Djamil, after the cowardly murder of her husband by a terrorist group.

Journalist, scriptwriter and filmmaker Anis Djaad made his first short movie "The Porthole" in 2012, followed by "Level Crossing" in 2014, then "The Trip of Keltum" in 2016.

His first feature film "Afterlife," awarded several times in Algeria and abroad, was selected with eleven other feature movies for the official competition of the 33rd Carthage Film Festival, which wrapped up Saturday evening.
