President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature, Language promotes creativity in Tamazight

ALGIERS- In a ceremony chaired by the Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, representing the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,  the winners of the 4th President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language, awarded Thursday in Algiers, underscored “the importance of this Prize in promoting creativity in Tamazight.”

In this regard, the winner of the first prize in the category of “Amazigh Literature translated into Tamazight,” the Tamazight language teacher Alaeddine Tafssast (Batna) told Algeria News Agency APS that this Prize is “an excellent initiative by the President of the Republic to encourage creativity in this language that carries the national identity and safeguards the national cultural memory and heritage.”

He added that his prize-winning novel dealt with “the issue of holding on to the values and principles against the ups and downs of life.”

The researcher Aicha Hadrani (Batna), winner of the second prize in the category “Linguistics” for her “Small Tachawit-Tachawit dictionary (local language of Tkukt),” expressed her joy at having won this prize, which encourages “continuing research on intangible cultural heritage, Amazigh literature and other technical and scientific specialties,” she said.

Fadia Tidjet (Bejaia) is the winner of the first prize in the category “Research into Amazigh Intangible Cultural Heritage” for her work on “traditions and customs related to beekeeping and honey production in Kabylie.”

Tidjet said that she is proud of this award, sending her thanks and gratitude to the event organizers.

For his part, the teacher of the Amazigh language Tarek Iftène (Tizi Ouzou), winner of the third prize in the category “Scientific, Technological and Digital Research” for developing a Tamazight audio book app, said that this award “encourages researchers in different fields related to Amazigh language and culture,” noting that it also “motivates him to develop new digital book apps to showcase literature, creativity and research in the Amazigh language.”

The 4th President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language, held at Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Centre (CIC), is part of the festivities organized by the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) to mark the Amazigh New Year, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, in implementation of one of his 54 commitments to preserve and bolster the components of the national identity and promote research into Amazigh literature and language.
