This new cinematographic work, which condemns the barbaric crimes of the French colonizer, tells the story of an Algerian family from Souk-Ahras (far eastern Algeria), forced to take refuge in a Tunisian village bordering Algeria.
After being defeated on 11 January 1958 in the battle of “ Djbel El Ouasta,” the French occupier took revenge on civilians by bombing the Tunisian village of Sakiet Sidi Youcef between Souk Ahras and El Kef village in Tunisia which housed many Algerian refugees who ran from colonial torments. On 8 February of the same year, French aircrafts bombed the village, leaving tens of martyrs, including women and children.
In addition to shedding light on solidarity and cohesion between the two brotherly peoples who faced the French war machinery, the movie emphasizes on the villagers who suffered from colonialism during the Liberation war.
At the end of the screening, Rebiga declared that the work was “exceptional and original “and that” it come within the framework of the protection of our history and national memory.”
