Speaking to APS, Salem Dahmani expressed his delight at winning this award, a dream he has held since starting his career in the audiovisual field.
He also noted that his work focuses on promoting Algeria’s rich intangible and tangible heritage, including the cultural legacy of the “Drum”, which is widespread in the country’s vast South, particularly in Adrar.
The director stated: “This work is the culmination of long-term efforts in audiovisual production, photography and documentaries. It highlights the age-old local cultural legacy through meetings and interviews with elderly masters and gifted young artists in this field, such as El-Hadj Mohamed Aboudi and the young talent Abdelmalek Harzaoui.”
The director said that this work aims to illuminate the sociocultural significance of the drum. This instrument, among others, is ubiquitous in cultural and popular events. It is also an essential component of the rhythmic poetry that captures the region’s daily life.
