ALGIERS- The sixth National Cultural Festival of traditional Algerian Costume kicked off Monday in the Arts and Cultural Centre of the Rais Palace (Bastion 23) in Algiers, with the participation of fifteen Algerian designers and craftsmen.

In a speech she read on behalf of the minister of Culture and Arts, the consultant in charge of studies at the ministry, Nadia Cheriet, underlined the importance of this event that contributes to the preservation of Algerian traditional costume.”

Reaffirming Algeria’s interest in “the preservation of the Algerian cultural heritage, subject to attacks and unsuccessful theft attempts,” Mouloudji highlighted that the protection of the national cultural heritage is “a priority” for the ministry of Culture, through the organisation of events, seminars, workshops and other activities as part of the Heritage Month.”

“The Algerian traditional costume, in all its diversity and richness, is one of the cultural and identity-related aspects of the Algerian people over the centuries,” she said.[/ecr]
