Ballalou meets German Deputy Foreign Minister to discuss cultural projects, joint programs

ALGIERS-The Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouhir Ballalou, held, on Sunday in Algiers, a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Germany, Katja Keul, and her accompanying official delegation, during which the two parties discussed “cultural projects and joint programs already completed and others to be implemented in the future,” the ministry said in a press release.

During this meeting, both parties reviewed “the history of Algerian-German cultural cooperation, which dates back to an agreement concluded in 1966 and updated in 2022, particularly concerning strategic partnership in museums and art restoration, as well as prospects for their strengthening,” expressing “satisfaction with achievements in this field,” said the press release.

The two parties also discussed “the possibility of continuing discussions about the restoration project of the frescoes at the National Public Museum of Traditional Arts and Cultural Expressions (Palace of El-Hadj Ahmed Bey of Constantine), by proposing to strengthen cooperation in restoring mosaics at Djemila museum, in partnership with a Museum in the German city of Trier,” and “ways to modernize Tebessa museum, in partnership with the German Archaeological Institute,” in addition to “the proposal to enhance the archaeological heritage of  Tipasa archaeological site,” added the same source.

The meeting also discussed “the importance of programming cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries, particularly in music, cinema, and books, in addition to exchanging experiences and expertise between training and research institutions under the sector,” concluded the press release.
