ALGIERS- Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy Fazia Dahleb affirmed Monday, in Algiers, that as part of the national household waste management program, a total of 412 structures were built until 2023 to preserve the cleanness of public spaces and improve the citizens’ living conditions.

The minister spoke in listening session by the Committee on Agriculture, Fishing and Environment Protection at the People’s National Assembly, devoted to the presentation of a report on the strategy and development prospects of the sector of Environment and Renewable Energy.

A total of 117 household and similar waste landfill sites were implemented, in addition to 52 solid waste landfill sites, 156 rehabilitated landfills, 16 recycling centers and 10 transfer centers.

This report comprises the construction of 15 sorting centers, 31 waste leachate treatment units and 15 composting units, she added, underlining that the national household waste management strategy adopted until 2025 is based on waste recovery and recycling “which constitutes a field for promising economic investment in Algeria.”

Thirty five companies were authorized to export specific and dangerous waste, including five in 2023 and 18 others were authorized to export this waste, including seven in 2023, according to the source.
