The Delegation of the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG) and International Organizations in Switzerland, which endorsed the communiqué read by the representative of Kenya on behalf of the African group, expressed "delight at the success of the diplomatic conference that resulted in the adoption of a historic treaty on intellectual property, genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge."
"Algeria seizes this opportunity to thank the President of the conference, His Excellency Ambassador Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, for the good supervision of the works, as well as all members of the commissions for the commendable efforts made throughout the conference," the Algerian Delegation emphasized.
"We also express our gratitude to the Director General of WIPO, Daren Tang, and the Secretariat team for their efforts to facilitate the work of the conference."
In this regard, the Delegation welcomed "the positive and constructive atmosphere that characterized the works of the conference, thanks to the spirit of responsibility and flexibility demonstrated by the member States, which allowed important agreements to be reached on the international instrument and the adoption of the treaty by consensus."
The Permanent Mission of Algeria to the UNOG considers that the adoption of this binding treaty "constitutes tangible progress in the process of consolidating the international legal framework relating to the protection of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, and clearly reflects the will of member States to achieve a more balanced, inclusive and equitable intellectual property system."
The Delegation said that "Algeria aspires to continue working with member States to strengthen the effective protection of genetic resources and traditional knowledge and contribute to promoting innovation and creativity for the achievement of sustainable development goals."
The delegation of the Algerian Mission reiterated its thanks to "all those who contributed to the success of this conference, which constitutes an important step in multilateral action", wishing for the entry into force of this international instrument.
