Health minister received in Geneva by WHO chief

ALGIERS- The minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, was received Saturday in Geneva by the director general of the World health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, with whom he discussed cooperation between Algeria and the WHO, mainly in terms of prevention, the ministry said in a statement.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the "works of the 77th World Health Assembly (May 27 – June 1) in Geneva, coinciding with the 60th session of the Council of Arab Health Ministers and its Executive Office, to take place Sunday," the statement said.

During the meeting, held at the WHO headquarters, the two sides discussed "cooperation between Algeria and the World Health Organization, mainly in terms of prevention, stressing the need to support Algeria's proposal to create an international reference centre for vaccines in the province of Tamanrasset (1970-km south of Algiers.

The discussions also included the examination of the possibility to adopt new approaches in vaccination and the possibility of creating an African network for training in the field.
