African Mathematics Olympiads: Belaabed receives Algerian winners  

ALGIERS-The Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belaabed, received Wednesday at Houari-Boumediene International Airport, the Algerian winners of the 31st African Mathematics Olympiads, held recently in Johannesburg (South Africa).

On this occasion, the Minister of National Education, who was accompanied by the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of Education, Higher Education, Vocational Training and Culture, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, affirmed that the results reflected the efforts made by the State to encourage prodigies.

He said that he “is proud of this exploit which adds to the successes achieved in various international scientific competitions, notably the Mathematics Olympiad.”

The Algerian team won six gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.

The student Derrache Chemseddine Abdelali clinched the title of "King of the African Olympiads" and the student Larinouna Selma that of "Queen of African Mathematics" after obtaining full marks in solving mathematical problems, the ministry said.[/ecr]
