In an interview broadcast by public television on the eve of the 2024-2025 school year, the minister noted that “11,709,830 students across primary, middle and secondary levels will return to school on Sunday.” This marks a 6.8% rise compared to last year, with a teaching workforce exceeding 1,019,000.
Belaabed said that “the school benefits from special attention from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” Belaabed outlined key initiatives for the new school year, notably the generalization of preschool education and the introduction of English from the 5th grade of primary school.
This school year will also feature streamlined primary education curricula, especially for the first cycle (1st and 2nd grades).
Changes include increased weekly hours for physical education and sports and artistic activities, in addition to boosting the mathematics branch. There will also be detailed evaluation of achievements for the three cycles of primary education.
The minister said that the evaluation of achievements, organized for the second time, “has proven its effectiveness” through the notable improvement of the level of middle school education thanks to the pedagogical treatment from which the students benefited.
