Algeria, Italy Sign Police Training Cooperation protocol

ALGIERS-Algeria and Italy have signed a protocol of cooperation in police training, as part of the visit paid by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, to Italy, the ministry said Wednesday in a press release.

During the Minister’s visit to Italy, a cooperatiion training protocol was signed between the Higher School of Police “Ali-Tounsi” and the Italian Police Forces Training School.

The agreement was signed by Director General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, and his Italian counterpart.

This agreement, first of its kind, constitutes a new framework capable of strengthening the current dynamic between the Interior sectors of the two countries,” according to the press release.

“It includes practical mechanisms for exchanging expertise in training and skills development, as well as theoretical and practical training methods, in addition to training of trainers, particularly in new areas, in response to current challenges, as well as enabling joint studies in areas related to police work.”

In this respect, the two parties also “agreed to develop a joint action plan for the implementation of the protocol, during the visit of Italian police officials to Algeria scheduled for the upcoming weeks,” added the press release.

Accompanied by Badaoui, Merad visited the central Security operations unit, where the Algerian delegation received explanations about the functioning and characteristics of the unit, and attended simulation exercises performed by the elements of this unit,” concluded the press release.
