Zerrouki said the meeting was meant to "lay solid foundations for Artificial Intelligence and discuss its adoption in Africa."

The meeting's agenda also included the creation of an African Council for Artificial Intelligence, he said, adding that Algeria was a "candidate to cochair the council, being the initiator of many projects."

The minister recalled the third African Start-up Conference held in Algiers, last December, which resulted in the "Ministerial Declaration of Algiers" that calls for unified policies on artificial intelligence in Africa.

He noted that the African ministerial meeting of telecommunications and innovation was held on the eve of the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025), to open Monday.
