Speaking at the opening of a study day on “The Role of University Research Institutions in Improving Algeria’s Investment Climate,” organized by the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Algiers 3 in partnership with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), Baddari explained that Algerian universities “now serve as engines of economic growth, thanks to infrastructure established across all university institutions, particularly business incubators and entrepreneurship development centres. These facilities, along with various support mechanisms, encourage students to pursue entrepreneurship, create start-ups or small businesses, and ultimately contribute to job creation.”
These initiatives enable graduates to “convert their knowledge into products that can be industrialized and marketed,” he said.
He further noted that “2024 has already seen the creation of 130 start-ups and 150 micro-enterprises, with an additional 900 micro-enterprise projects eligible for funding and 2,800 patent applications currently awaiting evaluation and response.”
For his part, AAPI Director General Omar Rekkache emphasized that the coordinated efforts between his agency and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research “aim to bridge the gap between businesses and university research laboratories, transforming academic institutions into driving forces that promote business development and technological self-sufficiency.”
