DOHA, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- The GCC committee for standardization affairs convened its 8th meeting here on Thursday with Kuwait's participation.
Qatari Minister of Trade and Industry Sheikh Mohammad bin Hamad expressed hope in a statement during the session that the conferees would cap the event with recommendations for bolstering joint GCC actions at the level of criteria and standards of products and commodities.
He underscored need for intensive GCC efforts to cope with the rapid developments, at this level, resulting from the open markets. He parlticularly called for updating legislations and the required specifications, in line with the GCC accord signed in 2001. He also indicated that the joint legislations are helpful for easy flow of the commodities across the borders among the Council's member countries.
The GCC had set up to 27,600 standardization units and technical rules that would facilitate inter-GCC trade and ensure products' sound quality.
The State of Kuwait's delegation at the meeting is headed the Minister of Trade and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel. (end)
