GENEVA, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on Tuesday launched an urgent humanitarian appeal for Lebanon.
In a statement issued from Geneva, the IFRC announced The "Lebanon: Complex Emergency Appeal" seeks to provide both "immediate and long-term" relief for approximately 600,000 individuals affected by the Israeli occupation aggression, also supporting the Lebanese Red Cross's efforts amidst the ongoing war.
IFRC Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain stated that the funds -which is 80 million Swiss Francs (about USD 93 million) -- expected to be raised from this appeal would enable the Lebanese Red Cross to continue delivering life-saving programs and reach more people, particularly given the growing daily humanitarian needs.
Chapagain urged the international community and donor countries to do everything possible to assist and respond to the "immense" humanitarian needs Lebanon faces in what he described as "one of its worst humanitarian crises in decades." Alongside this appeal, the IFRC's "Middle East Emergency Appeal," launched last August, would also remain active until December 2025.
Lebanon has been witnessing an intensive airstrikes by the Israeli occupation in the south and the capital, Beirut, along with ground intervention that has led to the displacement of over two million people under extremely dire humanitarian conditions since September of this year. (end) amk.sm
