CAIRO, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Organization Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Jamal Al-Loughani on Wednesday called for boosting efficiency of energy usage and diversifying resources in the Arab region.
The energy efficiency is not merely a good word, it's rather a significant strategy aimed at cutting and rationalizing energy consumption without affecting the output, Al-Loughani said, also mentioning some challenges namely the mounting demand for energy.
Al-Loughani was speaking at a training course, organized by OAPEC in coordination with the Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) company (Nov 4-6).
He expressed his opinion that investments in research and development in the energy efficiency and renewable energy technology must be in tandem with boosting investments in the oil and gas sectors.
It is important to realize the continuing role of the oil and gas in meeting world's needs for energy, he added.
Proportion of the oil and gas in the global energy output in 2023 reached 55 percent while that of the solar and wind energy remained in the range of 5.5 percent. (end)
