ANKARA, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed on Wednesday his hope to begin a new era of robust relations with the United States under the administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
His statement was made aboard the presidential aircraft during his return from a trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.
Erdogan stated that Turkiye is closely monitoring President Trump's appointments to key positions, particularly the Vice President and Secretary of State, emphasizing their significance in strengthening ties between Ankara and Washington.
"The Trump administration views the economy as one of its main priorities. Turkiye, with its strategic geographical location and young population, is a country that offers investment opportunities.
"We can create new opportunities to boost the trade volume and encourage investments between the two countries. Particularly in energy, infrastructure, and technology, we can develop new collaborations," Erdogan said.
In response to whether Trump's return to the White House might reduce regional conflicts and end Israeli aggression, President Erdogan stated that it is too early to speculate. He added that it will be necessary to wait until Trump officially assumes office from his predecessor, Joe Biden, next January.
Regarding the trade suspension with Israel, Erdogan emphasized that Ankara has fully halted trade exchanges and relations with the occupying forces.
He condemned the acts of genocide committed against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, stressing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and the continuous delivery of relief and humanitarian aid to the people in these regions.
Erdogan highlighted that Ankara's initiative at the UN to prevent the shipment of weapons to Israel has been supported by 52 countries and two international organizations. (end)
