TEHRAN, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi warned Thursday of targeting the Iranian nuclear facilities and the possible repercussions on the biological and environmental levels.
This came during a joint press conference with Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami held in the Iranian capital Tehran.
In his statement, Grossi said that "his current visit to Tehran is important and comes at a time of complex and dangerous time that the region is going through, my mission is to reach tangible results that will put us on a path away from confrontation."
Grossi stressed the importance of the IAEA verifying the nuclear activities of all countries, especially with regard to Iran, with the possibility of reaching a "strong agreement" between Tehran and the international community, and for this reason, the information must be "documented."
For his part, Eslami warned against issuing any decision against the Iranian nuclear program during the upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"We must prevent extremist parties from issuing decisions that affect the relationship between Iran and the IAEA," Eslami said, adding, "If they choose the path of confrontation, issuing decisions and harming our nuclear activities, Iran will respond in kind without delay and will take its necessary measures."
"Our nuclear program will not be affected by these pressures, and we will continue our peaceful nuclear activities within the framework of our interests", referring to some political pressures being exerted against this program.
Eslami added that Grossi's visit to Tehran is of utmost importance at this time, describing the talks between them as "influential and constructive." (end)
