NEW DELHI, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Indian officials said on Wednesday that at least 10 train passengers were killed after being run over by another train passing on the adjacent tracks in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.
The Press Trust of India said, quoting officials, that at least 10 passengers were killed as they came out of train in panic following rumours about fire and they were run over by another train between Maheji and Pardhade stations near Pachora in Jalgaon district.
The tragic incident took place 400 kilometers away from Mumbai as Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express halted after someone pulled the chain due to a rumour of fire and some passengers got out the train who were hit by the oncoming Karnataka Express heading from Bengaluru to Delhi. Local reports said that the death toll may go up.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his sorrow in the incident and promised all support to the affected. He said that the local administration is on the spot giving all possible support and help to the affected. (end)
