NEW DELHI, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- At least eight people were killed and seven others were injured due to a blast in an ordnance factory in Bhandara district, Maharashtra state, west India, on Friday morning. A massive fire erupted and the roof of the building collapsed, the Asian News International quoted Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari as saying.
The National Disaster Response Force was deployed for the rescue operation. After eight hours of rescue operations using specialized equipment, the authorities confirmed death of eight people.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that 13 to 14 workers were stuck at the site of explosion.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his deep sorrow in the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the dead and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. (end) atk.gb
