WASHINGTON, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- U.S. President Donald Trump toured the Los Angeles area in southern California late Friday to survey the destruction from deadly ongoing wildfires that have caused heavy casualties and damage.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival in Los Angeles, Trump said that he would seek to work with Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom to fight the blazes, which erupted on January 7.
Speaking to reporters after shaking hands with Newsom, who is one of Trump's fiercest critics, Trump sa:d, "I appreciate the governor coming out and meeting me".
"We want to get it fixed," the U.S. president underlined.
Newsom thanked Trump for coming to visit the wildfire areas, telling him: "We're going to need your support, we're going to need your help".
Fires have devastated California over the last few weeks, killing at least 28 people and destroying 55,082 acres and 16,188 buildings. (end) asj.mt
