AMMAN, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed Sunday his country's fundamental positions on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing that "the solution to the Palestinian cause lies in Palestine," during extensive talks with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Sigrid Kaag.
According to Jordan news agency (Petra), "Jordan operates according to well-known constants, the Palestinian issue must be resolved in Palestine, Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians," Safadi stated, underscoring that regional security and stability hinge on fulfilling Palestinian rights through an independent, sovereign state alongside Israel based on international law and legitimacy.
Safadi emphasized Jordan's unwavering commitment to supporting Palestinian presence on their land, linking this to ongoing Gaza reconstruction efforts.
"Our position on the two-state solution as the path to peace is unchangeable, as is our rejection of displacement," he declared, characterizing these positions not merely as policy but as strategic necessities for regional stability.
The minister stressed that resolving the Palestinian issue on just foundations that guarantee Palestinian rights represents the only path to regional security that has long eluded the area.
"This is not just an unshakeable Jordanian position, but a necessity for achieving the security and stability we all seek," Safadi added.
"There are many changes in our region now, breakthroughs we need to build upon," Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Sunday, citing progress in prisoner exchange deals leading to the Gaza ceasefire and developments in Lebanon and Syria.
Safadi expressed eagerness to work with the new US administration, noting President Donald Trump's clear commitment to regional peace.
Safadi reiterated that Jordan's reconstruction efforts in Gaza would continue, "until conditions worthy of Palestinian life are secured after all this suffering, destruction, and killing." (end) amn.mb
