WASHINGTON, Jan 31 (KUNA) - The US President Donald Trump has carried out his threat and signed executive orders imposing steep tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China.
The executive orders authorize levying 25 percent tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada.
The orders, however, stipulated that Canadian energy products would be levied only 10 percent tariffs in what could be some sort of recognition of the impact of tariffs on energy prices.
He also inked an executive order placing an additional 10 percent tariff on all imports from China.
On Friday, White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt the president will be implementing Saturday 25 percent tariffs on Mexico, 25 percent tariffs on Canada and a 10 percent tariff on China for the illegal fentanyl that they have sourced and allowed to distribute into the United States.
"The amount of fentanyl that has been seized at the southern border in the last two years alone has the potential to kill tens of millions of Americans," she argued. (end) amm.ibi
