NNA - The Kataeb Party's Political Bureau convened its weekly meeting, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel. After reviewing recent developments, the Bureau issued the following statement: The Kataeb Party expresses deep regret over the massacre in Majdal Shams, which resulted in the deaths of innocent children and youths. This tragedy is the outcome of a dangerous game of brinkmanship, marked by the crossing of all red lines and the dismissal of both internal and external warnings. As Lebanon’s existential issues have fallen to the bottom of the priority list, and as the country and the region edge towards a potential security and military crisis, Hezbollah is once again hiding behind the Lebanese state. The state has become a pliant instrument in Hezbollah's hands, manipulated for its convenience, and is being burdened with the task of negotiating on behalf of Hezbollah’s actions. Hezbollah even goes so far as to send its foreign relations officials to dictate directives to Lebanon’s Foreign Minister. The Political Bureau asserts that the Lebanese state, which is supposed to represent and protect its citizens and their interests, should not act as a mere intermediary between a militia and foreign entities. Its sole responsibility should be to uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty, the rule of law, and the dignity of the Lebanese people, maintaining control over its own decisions in both political and military matters. Therefore, the Kataeb Party urges the relevant ministerial group to address the situation and stop covering up any transgressions committed under the pretense of protecting the Lebanese people and the statemdash;an act that has become a source of mockery and derision. As Lebanese Army Day approaches, the Political Bureau reiterates that the military remains the only institution authorized to protect Lebanon and its people, safeguard the borders, and repel any aggression, as stipulated by the Constitution, domestic laws, and international resolutions. What is needed is a political decision that reflects the Lebanese people’s support for their army. -- Kataeb.org   ==================
