July 12, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan warned on Friday that escalation of the war in neighboring Sudan could spill over if no immediate actions were taken, citing the surge in fighting at the border could undermine security. James Odhok Oyay, the governor of Upper Nile in South Sudan told Sudan Tribune on Friday security situation in the area was under control, but that the security situation in Sudan was causing great concern as fighting in the Sennar and west Kordofan states in Sudan had sparked displacement into Aweil east in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Renk and Maban counties located north of the state. “The security situation in the counties and areas of Upper Nile state is calm. The tensions in May and June have been handled and the security of the town and protection of the civilian camp under the United Nations mission in South Sudan in Malakal has been restored.
